Hi everyone, I’m Josh Lee. I am going to be Timothy’s intern for Hearts Ignited Ministries International until the Fall of 2015! After this internship, I will be going to college in Boston to pursue a degree in physical therapy. I’d like to introduce myself over the next few paragraphs and briefly explain how God led me to Timothy and landed me safely in Bakersfield, California.
I was born in the extremely small country of Singapore, but moved to Hong Kong when I was one. I am blessed to have an older brother and a younger sister; they are both independent and are finding themselves walking in the ways of the Lord. My incredibly hard-working parents are both Christians, and my mom is definitely the prayer warrior in the family.
I grew up in an evangelical church. I loved the Lord and I knew deep down He had great plans for my life. I remember memorizing scripture and taking down notes every Sunday morning. I also had a few verses and words stuck on top of my bunk bed that reminded me of Him when I woke up and before I slept. After graduating high school in 2012, I went on my first missions trip to Rwanda, Africa. I bonded strongly with my youth pastor and other brothers and sisters there. I knew the Lord wanted me to be closely united and embrace a family mindset, not simply a friend mindset towards His people. The Lord began opening my heart to His people and caring for people in a way I had never dreamed of.
I moved back to Singapore in February 2013 and served there in the military for two years. Before leaving, I knew that my life would never be the same. It’s like a small bird flying out of its comfortable nest and discovering the world. That small bird was me. Those two years were initially hard to settle into, not just because of the military, but because whenever you move to a new environment, you have to mold yourself to fit and work in that place. (Anyone who has moved away from home knows what I’m talking about!) Anyway, it was July 2014 when I took 12 days of my 14 day leave to go to Honduras for a missions trip called Youth Power Invasion operated by Global Awakening. It was a life-changing experience.
Youth Power Invasion shook the very nature of what I believed, what I could do, and my relationship with Jesus. I was exposed to new ways of thinking, and power that was not my own. It was definitely an exciting period of my life. Timothy’s passion, teaching, and testimony resonated with my own life and I had an inherent desire to have more of what he had. I also experienced visions and peace that I’d never known before. Another big part of YPI were the people I was surrounded by, and everyone growing and learning together. It was encouraging to know that I wasn’t the only one whose mind was being blown!
Coming back to Singapore, I got in touch with Timothy through Facebook. I asked the Lord if going to Bakersfield and working for him would be a good idea. The Lord revealed to me this verse in the book of Ruth that captivated me: “…I have heard how you left your father and mother and your own land to live here among complete strangers. May the Lord, the God of Israel under whose wings you have come to take refuge, reward you fully for what you have done” (Ruth 2:12). This verse jumped out at me, so I stepped out in faith and began to Skype and email Timothy. Now, a few months later, I find myself safely in Bakersfield!
This season in my life has been very restful and I’ve been slowly learning how to discern God’s voice. I’m really looking forward to what Hearts Ignited has in store. I love to travel and it is a huge honor to serve and be a blessing to this ministry. I’ve learned that pursuing a relationship with Jesus is never boring! He loves our passion and wants to shower us with experiences – it’s our choice to seize it!
Blessings and Love,
